Phil Durrant, Lee Patterson, Paul Vogel
Buoy
Cath006 documents a 2006 recording session by the now established trio of Durrant, Patterson and Vogel. Buoy is their first CD release, consisting of five dense, detailed, finely constructed improvised soundworlds.
Phil Durrant is widely recognised as one of the UK's most respected and skilled improvisors and has played or recorded with literally hundreds of musicians over the past three decades. Formerly a violinist he pioneered the use of the laptop computer in live performance and today works with self-made software that allows him to react and respond as effectively as any acoustic musician.
Over the past five years Lee Patterson has flourished into one of the most consistently interesting and exciting musicians in the UK. Under-represented on CD, he has performed with everyone from Keith Rowe to Toshiya Tsunoda. He is respected as one of the very best field recordists in the world as well as a utilising a wide array of unusual and remarkable objects and natural processes in his work as a live improvisor.
Paul Vogel has performed as a live improvising musician since the seventies. A resident of Dublin, over recent years he has forged a widely respected musical partnership with David Lacey and has performed with the cream of today's improvising communities, working with a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments.
